Topic:The Gifted Child: Heart, Mind & the Classroom

About this Topic:

This fireside chat invites inclusion staff and educators to deepen their understanding of the gifted child beyond academic ability. Together, we will explore how giftedness shows up in the classroom, why identification can be complex, and how social and emotional needs are often at the heart of a gifted learner’s challenges.

Giftedness is a form of neurodiversity that often goes unnoticed—or is misunderstood—in school settings. Gifted students may not always “look” gifted; instead, they may present with emotional intensity, anxiety, perfectionism, or behaviors that are easily misinterpreted as other learning or emotional needs.

Through conversation, reflection, and practical examples, participants will:

  • Build a clearer understanding of giftedness as a neurodiverse profile.
  • Recognize how giftedness can be misidentified or overlooked in school-aged children.
  • Explore the social, emotional, and relational experiences of gifted learners.
