Psychotherapy (Children)

What is it?

For children who can confidently express themselves, a therapist will choose the traditional form of therapy, referred to as talk therapy. Our team of clinicians at The LightHouse Arabia use evidence-based treatment modalities such as, but not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) are used during this treatment.

Who needs it?

Talk therapy is beneficial and effective for a wide variety of emotional problems, including:

  • Acceptance; coming to terms with a physical or learning disability

  • Adjustment (reactions to specific life events such as divorce or other major changes)

  • Anger, and the appropriate expression of negative emotions

  • Anxiety

  • Attention problems

  • Bereavement and grief

  • Depression

  • Eating disorders

Therapies & Services

The first session is always spent with the caregivers/parents without the child present. We use this session to gather information that will help us to assess, diagnose and treat your child or teen.

At the second session, both the parents and child join the therapist for the first 15 minutes to discuss the limits of confidentiality. Following this, the child will continue with their therapist privately, for the remainder of the session. Your child’s clinician will deliver the most appropriate therapy for your child within a family-friendly environment.

Parental and family involvement is central to any treatment program, and we encourage all parents to attend our frequent parenting seminars and workshops offered. Please refer to our Events Calendar for details.

Our therapy delivery and approaches include:

  • Activity therapy

  • Coaching

  • Behavioral training

  • Psychotherapy (talk therapy)

  • Specialized workshops and group sessions on emotional regulation, mindfulness,

anxiety management, exam preparation, emotional intelligence and grief

Process

Typically, you will meet your therapist once a week. The course of treatment will depend on:
