The Connecting Counselors event is a Free-of-Cost event. It is open to all school counselors and provides an opportunity for learning, information sharing and support in a peer-to-peer environment, facilitated by an expert clinician from The LightHouse Arabia.

Topic: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Anger Management

Registration: This is an online event for school counselors. A Zoom link will be shared upon registration.

Angry outbursts and difficulties regulating big emotions are a common and challenging occurrence for children and young people within the school setting. Self-regulation skills enable children to identify and manage stressful or difficult situations they may encounter as they transition through their childhood and teenage life. Both Occupational Therapists and Psychologists offer a number of effective techniques to help a child develop regulation strategies crucial for understanding, identifying and managing their feelings and energy levels. Within the current event, school counselors will hear a range of strategies from the perspectives of our multidisciplinary team to consider ways of promoting self-control within the student population they serve.

Participants will walk away with:

• An understanding of the current psychological evidence-base for anger management tools and strategies for children and young people.

• Insight into how and when occupational therapy should be part of the intervention. • An understanding of how occupational therapy and psychology based skills complement one another.

• A toolbox of techniques for supporting children and young people to identify and manage anger and angry behaviour in the school and home environment.
