Performance Coach

Dr. Scott Whitfield

Achieving high performance begins by recognizing the freedom we have to make choices, embracing the responsibility they bring, and finding the courage to act.

As a young athlete, I was driven to reach the highest levels of sport. That journey sparked my fascination with the mental side of performance – understanding what enables some people to thrive under pressure while others falter. This curiosity led me to study Sport Psychology, first to deepen my knowledge of peak performance, and then to help others unlock their own potential.

As a Sport and Exercise Psychologist and Performance Coach, I have worked across professional, elite, grassroots, and youth development settings, supporting athletes, teams, and organisations to perform at their best. My approach is highly tailored, combining evidence-based strategies with a strong focus on cultivating the mindset needed to thrive under competitive pressure. My experience includes working with professional cricket and rugby teams in the UK, as well as lecturing at universities on performance psychology.

Alongside performance optimization, I also work with clients on stress, anxiety, and low mood – helping them regulate emotions, build resilience, and restore a sense of balance. Connecting with my own journey, I am passionate about supporting high performers, or those simply seeking to grow from where they are, in achieving their goals. I equip clients with psychological skills to grow both as performers and as people, placing equal emphasis on performance and wellbeing.

Recognizing that we are shaped by the environments we operate in, I adopt a systems approach – working collaboratively with coaches, parents, teachers, and organizational leaders to create settings that foster both high performance and personal growth.

While much of my work has been in sport, the principles of performance psychology extend far beyond the playing field. Whether working with athletes, business leaders, students, or performers in other fields, my aim is the same: to help individuals and teams develop frameworks that enable sustainable, consistent high performance while supporting their overall mental health.
