Dr. Alisha Walker , D.Clin.Psych (Ireland)
Clinical Psychologist
I am a Clinical Psychologist from the Republic of Ireland, which is where I completed my doctoral training. Working in public health services in Ireland as well as in private practice, my clinical experience has involved working with diverse client presentations, primarily from a biopsychosocial perspective. This has equipped me to work with individuals across the lifespan presenting with a range of biological, systemic, behavioural and emotional difficulties.
I have extensive experience working with adults with acquired brain injuries (ABI) and their families. This fulfilling work has included in depth neuropsychological assessment, behavioural and therapeutic intervention, and neurorehabilitation in residential, community and hospital settings.
In my therapy work with community mental health teams, hospital teams, private practice and disability services, I have had the privilege in gaining over eight years of experience in providing psychological support, assessment and intervention to adults and families.
Neurodiversity is also a particular interest of mine, and I offer consultation and best practice assessments to explore autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children and adults, as well as systemic support in the context of ASD.
Therapeutically, I adopt an integrative, person-centred approach to provide the most appropriate intervention to respond to individual client needs and unique backgrounds. I have completed clinical training in a range of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy and Systemic Psychotherapy. I also strongly value the benefits of relational therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Analytic Therapy in my practice.
Providing an empathic, collaborative and non-judgemental space for people to share and explore their difficulties is a key component I emphasise in developing a positive therapeutic relationship with my clients.
