“I believe strongly in a person-centered approach to therapy, where the individual and their needs determine the course of intervention.”
As a Clinical Psychologist, I am privileged to join people on some of their most challenging journeys. To me this is a privilege and each journey unique and honored. I approach my work from a compassionate, flexible, person-centered perspective with the individual at heart of what I do.
I completed my doctoral training at the University of Liverpool in 2010 and have been living and working in the GCC since. I have been working at The LightHouse Arabia since 2013 when I moved from Kuwait to Dubai and continue to integrate the rich and diverse experiences that come from living and working in the region. I work primarily with adults, young adults, and adolescents and see individuals with a broad range of mental health and well-being concerns. I have a special interest in pre and post-natal mental health, attachment and infant mental health. I offer support to women and their families in the pre and post-natal period, with a range of concerns including depression, anxiety, post puerperal psychosis, birth trauma, fertility issues, and adoption. In addition, I offer parenting support and training to families and through community involvement and collaboration. I head the Women’s Health service at The Lighthouse Arabia and in this role, focus on the provision of well-being and mental health services for women at all stages of life.
I utilise a primarily Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach in my work but draw on a number of third-wave therapies including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Mindfulness based approaches. This tool kit of therapeutic modalities allows me to be responsive to the needs of each individual and means that therapy is responsive rather than prescriptive.
Beyond my individual work, I work closely with other organisations and groups supporting mental health in the UAE and contribute regularly to media and radio content. I am passionate about educating and sharing knowledge around mental health and believe that honest conversation and education raise awareness and decrease stigma.
