Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Victoria Mountford

I am passionate about improving treatment and outcomes for people who experience eating disorders and body image concerns. Such difficulties often have huge emotional, physical, social and financial costs for both the individual and their family.

I have over 20 years of experience  in working with individuals with eating disorders and body image concerns and their families, and I have worked in specialist NHS outpatient, in patient and day-care eating disorder services. I was part of the founding team who developed FREED, the first early intervention eating disorder service in London, UK.  Prior to joining The LightHouse Arabia,  I was joint Lead of the Eating Disorder Service at Maudsley Health, Abu Dhabi, which enabled me to develop an understanding of eating disorders and mental health in the  region.

In addition to practicing clinically, I continue my research to improve and develop effective treatments, sharing my findings at international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals. I have published widely, including three books:Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for the Eating Disorders: A Comprehensive Treatment Guide (2007), Beating Your Eating Disorder: A Cognitive-Behavioural Self Help Guide for Adult Sufferers and their Carers (2010) and Brief Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Non-Underweight Patients: CBT-T for Eating Disorders (2019). I am a BABCP accredited practitioner, supervisor and trainer. In 2020, I was joint recipient of the Academy for Eating Disorders Outstanding Clinician Award.

I am from the UK, and I completed  my BA (Hons) in Psychology at the University of Reading, followed by  my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at University College London. Prior to moving to the UAE, I worked at the prestigious Maudsley Hospital Eating Disorders Service in London, England. I lived and worked in Abu Dhabi for two years, before moving to Dubai to join The LightHouse Arabia.
