Eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, commonly develop in adolescence. However, the global pandemic, and subsequent restrictions and uncertainty have led to an increase in mental health problems in young people, particularly eating disorders, across the world. Eating disorders can have severe physical, emotional and psychosocial consequences for the young person and can cause profound disruption and worry in family life.
